Help SF State with "New Media" class - Bernadette Tansey beetansey@yahoo.com

If you have a way of getting the word out, I'd like ideas from the group. I'm a former SF Chronicle biotech reporter, and I'll be teaching a journalism class in the fall (Reporting "boot camp'' at SF State).  I'm developing ways to prepare students for the new media landscape. They'll each cover a city neighborhood intensively. The focus is on learning how to find information and write it up well, although there could be some room for the use of audio and visual elements. If anyone would like to be my ''consultant," they can tell me how I can tailor assignments to get my students street-ready.

Help The Stanford Daily with thinking about/looking for a Director of Special Projects - Devin Banerjee devin.banerjee@gmail.com

The Stanford Daily, Stanford's independent, student-run, 118 year old newspaper, is considering hiring a full-time paid Director of Special Projects. This person would report to the student Editor in Chief and the Daily's 9 board members, and his/her contract would be for 3+ years. Ideally this person would have advanced digital skills, be fluent across many internet technologies and be interested in finding creative new ways for the Daily to serve the Stanford community. If you or someone you know fits this profile, come see us.

Ideas and Feedbacks needed for Perspective Journalism class

I need some ideas from the group on using the iPad as a citizen/independent/online journalist - I am a student at the Academy of Art University and I'm doing a final project. The assignment is simply doing a feature story, but I made a little bit of an experiment. I used myself as a third person and narrate my story as a student journalist to explore the current problems any newbie journalist has, little things like putting physical notes together into a digital format.

From there, I would love to discuss with the group on how a portable PDF blog post, in using the Internet and social media, we can promote ourselves as an entrepreneur/independent journalist in the future.
Specifically the final will be a PDF for a blog post, so there won't be any videos. I will be glad to have either group discussions or one-on-one consulting as to how can I take advantage of the new interface - the iPad - to organize our notes and photos into a blog post.
